3Din30 Recap: Exploring Velo3D’s Cutting Edge, Non-Contact Recoater Blade Technology

3Din30 is Velo3D’s Youtube and LinkedIn Live channel featuring speakers from multiple links in the additive manufacturing supply chain. We discuss new topics about every 2 weeks. Each session lasts about 30 minutes.

Episode 27: Exploring Velo3D’s Cutting Edge, Non-Contact Recoater Blade Technology

People often ask us how Velo3D can print the most advanced geometries, so for our next episode, and for the first time, we’re pulling back the curtain in a live Q&A session about our unique non-contact recoater technology.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) works on the principle that a solid part is built up layer by layer from fine powder. In conventional systems, engineers use a physical blade dragged across the powder bed to create each new layer of flat powder. However, thin, overhanging geometry can collide with the blade, resulting in a non-recoverable build-failure.

During this on-demand 3Din30, we welcome back Velo3D Technical Sales Engineer Michael Harsch to answer YOUR questions and discuss Velo3D’s unique contact-free recoater process, which frees engineers from the constraints of conventional LPBF rules by allowing them to evade traditional AM design limitations.
